Six Questions to Ask of a Lemon Law Attorney

By Garret Langford

1. How many years of experience do you have with Lemon Law cases? Be careful on this, as some law firms will combine years of experience for their whole staff and use this inflated number for their individual experience. Ask specifically how many years experience each attorney has had in Lemon Law. Five or more years is adequate to assure you have a fair chance at being successful.

2. Ask how many Lemon Law cases they have handled. If you don't get an immediate, straightforeward answer, then look elsewhere. A reputable lawyer will answer that question without hesitation and will also add how many cases were successful without being asked. A success rate of 80% is the minimum number you are seeking.

3. Also consider how the winning cases were resolved. Did the automobile owners receive a buy-back? This is the optimal solution for any lemon law case. Getting reimbursed for repairs is not a good outcome, as the problem is likely to reappear after the case is settled. You want to choose the law firm that views the buy-back as the only acceptable winning outcome for any lemon law case.

4. The next thing to look out for is the personal introductory session. This is commonplace with the highly professional law firms. You should not even have to ask for one. After first contact with the firm if one is not offer to you, go elsewhere. Attend this session, and when you leave, you should know how long the case will take to complete, what your chances of winning are, how much your total cost would be should you hire that firm, and what your own responsibilities are related to the lemon law.

5. Is the lawyer available via phone after normal business hours? Reputable firms offer answering service 24/7 with a guarantee of 24-hour return on response. In order to carry out your own responsibilites with the case, you will need to get questions quickly aswered outside of normal business hours.

6. Are you free to choose any partner in the firm, or will one be assigned to you? The choice should be up to you. You know best what type of lawyer would be the best fit for you. If not offered a choice of attorneys, seek an alternative firm. - 30451
